Australian Depression Glass song
When it comes to acquiring blue cobalt glass, value genuinely is in the eyes of the beholder. It is impossible to tell what a particular person is going to fall in love with. Equally challenging is creating any piece of art which may be attractive to everyone. No matter how impressive the master, there are a number of folks who will not enjoy or grasp his ability. On the other hand, there are pieces that become collectible and important, at least to you, just for the reason that you enjoy owning them viewing them.
Australian Depression Glass original song by Peter Curtis Mateer Australian depression glass is very unique Underneath a surface pressed and moulded by the heat Lies another story, one that's rather opaque Australian depression glass can pull you in deep to Australia From the forests of Bohemia (1) the practice grew To encompass people of a different race and hue Drowning their sorrows in the dry creek beds they'd meet Australian depression glass is like an antique It's a curious beast When an empty glass, a broken home is all you can afford Then you may as well look on the bright side, after all Nobody's listening anyway Australian depression glass is like a mirror deep And if you stop to check yourself that look wont come for cheap The reflection of your mind will shatter while you weep Weep into Australian depression glass Weep into Australian depression glass (1) From Wikipedia: Bohemia (Czech: Čechy;[1] German: Böhmen (help·info); Polish: Czechy; French: Bohême; Latin: Bohemia) is a historical region in central Europe, occupying the western two-thirds of the traditional Czech Lands, currently the Czech Republic. In a broader meaning, it often refers to the entire Czech territory, including Moravia and Czech Silesia,[2] especially in historical contexts, such as the Kingdom of Bohemia. Bohemia has an area of 52750 km² and today is home to 6.25 million of the Czech Republic's 10.3 million inhabitants. It is bordered by Germany to the southwest, west, and northwest ...

Thanks Barbette! That could be the Elvis Costello influence coming out.
Have a wonderful break. Try not to work at your business too hard this break, though it must be difficult at times I imagine. Relax…sing a few songs…bring more good cheer and all that
Pete

Janet

Depressions….not this.
Really diggin’ this, Pete. I love the symbolism here…..I think it’s really clever how you use Australian glass to make some pretty profound observations….just wonderful.
Janet
This is pretty amazing Pete. The recording is perfect. Greetings from the frozen north.
Hey Pete, I heard this one before and It is very good. I agree it has some Costelloesqueness to it
) and that is a good thing. So, the folks in the Czech Republic can say they are Bohemians and really mean it eh? haha. Happy Holidays Pete. -Ron
Hi again. Only if they’re from the part that is Bohemia, to be pedantic, ha, but, yeah, I deliberately punned the word. Speaking of Costelloesqueisity I’ve been enjoying hearing your songs a lot recently and reckon his partnership with Macca could be just about a template for any of them…except perhaps Ergo I Go which finishes like a Yes song (love it – you must be classically trained well) – Pete
Hi. We’re baking down under. It’s the lengthy summer vacation as well (it’s hell:-)
Thanks. Happy New Year Mark.
Thanks Janet. Ever since I laid eyes on the book of the same name in our local library I knew it would make a good title/metaphor. And the video simply had to include some slides of this (rather tasteless it appears) period of Australian “antiquity” (iroinic quotes because the Aborigines have been here from 40 – 70 000 years- their cave paintings are the real antiquities).

Hi Michael. I hope that any depression has lifted mate (economic, bio-chemical, whatever) in your part of the world…it’s been repeatedly said on telly here that the colder climate makes for more cases of clinical depression in Scandanavia- any truth to this or is it just nonsense?
Pete
Thanks Janet.
Not quite an adolescent effort – just the first song I wrote in 2009.
I googled depression glass and read it was not considered to be genuine antique art. It does look kind of kitsch. Even tasteless, judging by some of these pictures.
Personally I only like kitsch if a pop artist such as Claes Oldenburg adds irony into the mix. You?
Like your songs….original and your lyrics are alway so good……Depression Glass was considered Kitsch…then it escalated among Antique dealers….I know a graphic artist who does Kitsch quite well.
Hi Pete!
Happy New Year!
Economy crise has been here too but people still
buying things maybe thats why we havent fallin
down. Climate crises youré discuss but not often.
Here is cold as hell just now, hopes for warmer
weather because its damned expensive to heat
up the house. Hows Life with you…my friend….
holiday or? Anyway a good song, my friend!
Best Michael
Yes, I really liked the Macca/Costello collabs. Classically trained I am not, haha… I am a “Jungle Musician” at best. Happy New Year Pete. -Ron
Great lyrics and tune and your singing continues to amaze me. Excellent!
Hi Jack, long time no see. Glad you’ve returned to us. Such a popular band the Addled Zen Ramblers. Don’t deny your group’s fans man. Seriously, of course you must have had good reasons for taking a short break from posting and taliking about our original songs.
Nice to hear from you now though, and thanks for taking a listen.
Pete
This is a Cool video Pete…very interesting pictures. You have a lot to say lyrically don’t you? I enjoy listening to your sing….For some reason, you remind me of Cat Stevens a bit….that type of voice….the type of voice that is delivers a message—a kind voice–I don’t think I’ve ever said that before on Youtube..You did Good!–keep it up!!
Peace,

Thanks Y&b. I think that is the nicest thing to say. Kindliness clothes words in meaning and attracts hearts. It’s a better way to get a message across than shouting or finger pointing songs. You are kind too. Pete
This song is just beautiful both lyrically and melody wise…great work!
Thanks. Nice to hear from another of the friends always. Take care. Pete
You know how to write and put together the good words to bring the right images to our minds! 5 stars for a poet
Ah thank you very much. It’s not easy having to use such angular sounding words to make poetic noises. Sometimes I wonder if I sound a bit like somebody singing with his mouth full of bread
Pete
Nice song Pete- depression glass is a ‘hot’ item among ‘antique dealers’- not to detract from your song……
